Morer!

After running the car several hundred miles, the oil warning light and buzzer came on. I pulled over, turned the engine off and opened the oil filler cap. the head looked like it was covered in oil. Back to the house I went.

I ordered and installed an electrical VDO oil pressure gauge. Running the engine again, oil pressure seemed fine. After driving for a while, oil pressure started dropping and revving the engine didn't get pressure over 15 psi. Back to the driveway again.

I pulled the oil pan and noticed some crud on the pump screen. I decided to pull the pump and check the pump backlash according to the Bentley manual.

The crud turned out to be LINT, from the red shop rags that I had used to cover the cylinders while the head was off and what I used for wiping down the cylinders after honing and washing with diesel.

The pump checked within specification. So after cleaning the screen I re-installed the pump.

I refilled the crankcase with Mobil 1 15W-50 and started the car. Oil pressure has been good for the last 1000 miles. But...
